Daniel Hunt, Associate Professor, Sculpture: B.F.A. and A.M., University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, M.F.A., Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. Professor Hunt teaches all levels of Sculpture at Kansas State University and is an expert in working with a variety of materials. He regularly employs cast aluminum, bronze and iron, fabric, plastics, steel and wood to generate sculptures and installations, often building the necessary equipment to produce the work and has taught many workshops nationally and internationally with this focus. His work has been exhibited widely in the United States and the UK, is housed in private collections, has been publicly commissioned.

Some time ago, I moved houses seven times within a two-year period, finally settling in Kansas, just 15 miles from the Oregon Trail.  I was fascinated with the history of the westward expansion and the logistics of mobility in the 1800’s. I was drawn to the construction and beauty of wagons, specifically the wheels. Seeing them as a metaphor for potential.  “Anyway, The Wind Blows” was built as an attempt to understand place; how I function day to day and what I leave behind.

 

The process for "Anyway The Wind Blows" was incorporating narrative and iconographic imagery with a humorous edge, Hunt’s ideas. Inspired by the experiences of living and the study of Theology, and are often shaped by his interest in music, literature, film, art history, outdoor adventures and hot rod culture.
